The mission of the Master Gardener Foundation of Pierce County (MGFPC), a 501(c)(3) charitable organization is to support the WSU Pierce County Extension Master Gardener Program in its efforts to provide public education in gardening and environmental stewardship generated from research at WSU and other university systems through education, leadership, and advocacy.

With most of its acres planted in Bartletts, Smith Orchards in Wapato, Washington, stands as an uncommon reminder of what was once common. On land farmed by the Smith family since the 1930s, they grow and harvest 36 acres of Bartlett pears, with some Packhams mixed in and 2 acres of Anjous. They also have 4 acres of Bing cherries.
